Naturally, for us, it’s all about beer. Since opening our flagship store in 2011, Hogshead Douglasdale, Hogshead has become known far and wide for its incredible craft beer selection. In fact, we were one of the first pubs in Gauteng to serve craft beer on tap. Fast forward over a decade, and Hogshead is still at the forefront, especially with our award-winning Brewhogs craft beers.

Speaking of Brewhogs, they’ve probably got one of the richest brewery histories in South Africa (you can read all about it in On Tap Magazine, where Brew Master Michael Biljon gives the full lowdown). From their versatile craft beers to their unique blends, Brewhogs really embodies the spirit of beer that we’ve worked so hard to create here at Hogshead.

And let’s be real – it’s no surprise that Hogshead Douglasdale was voted Best Neighbourhood Pub by Best of Joburg (we’re pretty sure it had something to do with the beer). So yeah, we’re living up to the name, but as much as we adore our brews, let’s not forget that we’re also serious, correction, VERY serious, about food.

What some people might not know is that – brace yourself – we serve damn good food! We’ve even got Beer Snacks that perfectly complement a crisp Brewhogs pint. All our food is freshly made on-site, and we take pride in keeping it free from preservatives, MSG, and artificial flavourants wherever possible. That’s why we use home-ground beef brisket and top-side to craft our fresh, never frozen, 200g burger patty—100% pure beef and 100% flippin’ delicious!

Our very own Johannes du Toit, the Group Kitchen Operations Manager, brings years of culinary experience to the table. He’s travelled the world soaking up knowledge and creating some seriously mouthwatering dishes for you. Trust us, you’re in good hands. Now, of course, we’ve got your standard pub favourites like the award-winning Original Hogs Cheese Burger. But don’t overlook the hidden gems on our menu. Things like our Beira-Styled Flame-Grilled Peri-Peri Spatchcock Chicken, Portuguese Steak, and South Fried Chicken Burger, and yes, they are as delicious as they sound *chefs kiss* (note to reader: the author is getting hungry).

Okay, so we’ve got award-winning craft beer, bold and flavourful food, but there’s one more thing we’re all about:  an authentic pub experience.
